16-year-old airlifted after causing head-on crash on GA 201 in Whitfield County Tuesday afternoon

According to the Georgia State Patrol, “These are the preliminary investigative findings, and this crash is still under investigation. On March 1, 2022, at 4:50 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 5 Dalton was requested to investigate a two-vehicle crash with injuries on GA 201 (1803 Tunnel Hill Varnell Road) near Lake Kathy Road in Whitfield County. The preliminary investigation shows that a white BMW 430XI driven by a 16-year-old male was traveling east on GA 201 at a high rate of speed. The BMW passed traffic in a no-passing zone and traveled east in the west lanes on GA 201, and struck a blue GMC Acadia driven by a 39-year-old female who was traveling west on GA 201. The 16-year-old male was life-flighted to Erlanger Hospital. The female was transported to Hamilton Medical Center by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.” According to a Whitfield County 911 CAD, the teenager was entrapped and was extricated after lengthy extraction by Whitfield County Fire Department.
