8-year-old girl killed, woman injured in head-on crash in Walker County Tuesday

UPDATE: According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Cody A. Gann, 29, of Rock Spring has been officially charged by the Georgia State Patrol with serious injury by vehicle, DUI drugs – driving under the influence of drugs,
improperly lane change, failure to maintain lane, driving wrong side of the road, failure to exercise due care when using cell phone/radio, and homicide by vehicle 1st degree. He was arrested on scene of the fatal crash Tuesday charged with felony violation probation.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, “This accident is still under investigation and these are the preliminary investigative findings. On April 27, 2021, at approximately 4:49 hours p.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 41 LaFayette was requested to investigate a two vehicle crash on GA #1 at Wheeler Road in Walker County. A gold Oldsmobile Alero was traveling north on GA #1 and crossed into the south lanes. The Oldsmobile struck a Hyundai Kona that was traveling south on GA #1. The driver of the Oldsmobile was Mr. Cody A. Gann (29 years old) of Rock Spring, GA. Mr. Gann was the only occupant of the Oldsmobile and refused medical treatment on scene. The Hyundai was occupied by two occupants. The driver, Ms. Cara Casey Blalock, was injured and transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The passenger of the Hyundai, Ms. Sarah English (8 years old), was transported to TC Thompsons by ambulance and was pronounced deceased after arriving. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this investigation.”
