Acworth man charged with DUI after 911 call from concerned citizen in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident, on August 30th, 2021, at around 3:45 AM, Officer Overstreet was dispatched to a possible DUI at Old Bluff Road at Black’s Bluff Road near the Lock n Dam. The complainant to 911 stated that a white male driver identified as George Fletcher Gaston III, 34, of Acworth, was blocking Old Bluff Road in the white Suburban. The officer arrived and noticed the white Chevrolet Suburban parked next to the white Lexus at the Lock. The officer noticed Gaston staggering to walk straight and asked what he was up to this evening. He stated that he was not from here and was headed to Scottsboro. Officer Overstreet reported, “[I] noticed that while speaking Gaston, his speech was slurred, and he was still staggering when walking even in short distances. While explaining the field sobriety testing instructions to him, [I] noticed his eyes were red and glassy. [I] also noticed his pupils didn’t react well to the light stimulus.” Gaston showed several clues of impairment and was then detained. The witness stated that she was traveling down Black’s Bluff Road and got to the detour at Old Bluff Road and noticed the male stopped across the road blocking both travel lanes. She stated that Gaston pulled forward and backed up, and stopped again. She stated that she asked Gaston if he had been drinking and that he told her that he had been drinking red wine. The officer walked over to the Suburban and observed an open bottle of wine in the center console and a glass next to it. Gaston was then advised that he was being placed under arrest for DUI driving under the influence of alcohol. Sgt. Holbrook went to the vehicle to get the open bottle of wine and noticed a bag of THC 600mg gummies. Sgt. Holbrook also conducted a further search of the vehicle and located a black box in the passenger seat of the vehicle that had Marijuana and a glass smoking pipe.
Gaston agreed to the state test for his blood. Gaston was transported to Floyd County Jail where he was booked on his charges of marijuana-possession less than 1 oz., possession, manufacture, distribution, or sale of low THC oil; (felony), possession and use of drug-related objects, driving under the influence of alcohol, and open container violation.
