According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Wednesday, April 6th, 2022, at approximately 5:30 PM, Sergeant Childers responded to an address on Hensley Road in Adairsville in reference to a theft report. The deputy spoke with the 83-year-old victim and a witness who advised that he was at the residence where Wendell Troy Cochran, 32, of Adairsville, resided, working on his hot water heater. Cochran reportedly asked if they needed anything, and shortly after telling him no, the victim could hear his 1997 Ford F-150 start-up, and he saw Cochran fleeing in it. The witness showed the deputy text messages on her phone where she had been texting with Cochran telling him to bring the truck back and that she had contacted law enforcement. According to the report, “The messages were random from Mr. Cochran appearing that he might be under the influence of an illicit drug or suffering from a mental disorder. The messages showed that Mr. Cochran stated he would park the truck at Walmart.” The witness stated that she went to Walmart and was unable to locate the truck. The elderly victim stated that he wished to press charges on Cochran. The deputy was able to obtain a VIN on the vehicle and had Gordon E911 provide a lookout to surrounding agencies. According to the report, “Sergeant Childers had the vehicle entered on GCIC/NCIC as stolen and applied for charges on Mr. Cochran for theft by taking, entering auto, and exploitation of elderly persons.” On June 14th, 2022, Cochran was booked into the Gordon County Jail after being arrested by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. According to criminal records, Cochran has previous felony convictions for theft by taking and burglary charges from 2020 after pleading guiltily in January 2022.
