Adairsville woman charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle after fatal crash Friday in Bartow County

Georgia State Patrol has arrested Wanda Faye Cox, 59 of Adairsville in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on Adairsville Pleasant Valley Road on March 12th. She allegedly drove a 2007 Ford Explorer eastbound when she attempted to negotiate a curve to the right about 1,000 feet west of Mostellers Mill Road. She reportedly failed to maintain her lane. The Explorer traveled onto the left shoulder, striking a fire hydrant and sideswiping a tree. The impact caused the Explorer to overturn and come to a final uncontrolled rest in the left shoulder against a tree. GSP determined the area of impact by yaw marks, furrow marks, gouge marks, and contact damage to the vehicle. Ricky Lee Craig, 51, died at the scene. He was reportedly sitting in the rear left seat without a seatbelt and ejected. GSP took Cox to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment with a possible injury or complaint. Cox was booked into the Bartow County Jail charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence of drugs, and failure to maintain lane. A third passenger did not receive any injuries.
