Armuchee teen killed in multi-vehicle crash Friday morning in Floyd County

According to Floyd County Police Sergeant Chris Fincher At 7:30 AM, Two vehicles, A Honda Civic and a Jeep Wrangler, were traveling southward (inbound to Rome) on Highway 27. The Jeep Wrangler, was being driven by Ainsley Sutton, 18, of Armuchee, was in the right lane when the driver over-reacted to a car that had slowed to make a turn. Sutton swerved to the left to avoid hitting the car in front but hit the Honda Civic being driven by Alexis Howell, 19, of Armuchee on the passenger side. The impact pushed Howell and the Honda into the northbound lane where it was struck by a Nissan Altima, driven by Juan Vicente-Pelico, 39, of Rome. Alexis Howell was pronounced deceased. A gofundme has been set up for Howell https://gofund.me/7cebd7c4. According to reports, this is the 4th fatal crash in the last several weeks in Floyd County. On March 4th, Hector Guzman, 37, was killed in the crash on North Avenue, sustaining head and chest wounds. A father and son — Jose Pompilio Cornejo-Cornejo, 61, and Jose Cornejo-Cornejo, 18 — were killed in a head-on collision on Redmond Circle on Sunday, Feb. 28th. That crash still remains under investigation by the Rome Police Department.
