Atlanta man arrested for DUI after 911 call from concerned citizen on I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on May 3rd, 2021, at around Lt. Gibson responded to the area of I-75 southbound at the 336 entrance ramp in reference to a concerned citizen calling into Whitfield County 911 regarding a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. According to the report, “After dispatch advised the vehicle had passed mile marker 336, Lt. Gibson entered the interstate. As Lt. Gibson traveled behind the vehicles, he saw the complainant’s vehicle, and he also observed the offender vehicle failing to maintain its lane by drifting between the middle and left lanes.” The deputy observed the vehicle drift to the outside and back to the inside of curves, as well as fail to maintain its lane. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver identified as David Deangelo Roberts, 33, of Atlanta. Roberts stated, “I’m almost home.” Roberts considered Atlanta home and stated that he had been driving from Ohio all day. According to the report, “While speaking to Mr. Roberts, he observed that Mr. Roberts’s speech was slow and slurred, and Mr. Roberts appeared to be very lethargic.” Roberts showed several clues of impairment during the test and was placed under arrest for DUI driving under the influence of alcohol. Roberts was read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice for Suspect Age 21 and Older and agreed to the state’s test. According to the report, “Roberts informed Lt. Gibson that he had made a good decision, he appreciated Lt. Gibson and his decision, and there was a container with an alcoholic beverage in it in the vehicle.” Roberts was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of 0.208. Roberts was charged with failure to maintain lane, open container violation, DUI-alcohol 0.08 grams or more.
