Atlanta man arrested for DUI after driving at speeds over 100 mph on I-75 in Catoosa County

According to a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On October 23rd, 2022, at 4:13 AM, Deputy Harris stopped a 2017 Silver Ford Fiesta on interstate 75 north at mile marker 342 after observing it speeding at 102 mph in a 70 mph zone. Deputy Harris made contact with Deric Louis Daniels, 51, of Atlanta, and asked why he was driving so fast, and he stated that he was just driving to go see his girlfriend. According to the report, “When Daniels was handing his driver’s license to Deputy Harris, Daniels attempted to hand his driver’s license to Deputy Harris while looking down at his lap, and speak at a low volume. Deputy Harris waited for Daniels to look at him and asked what name he preferred to be addressed by, and observed his eyes to be red, watery, and glassy looking. Deputy Harris also smelled the odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from Daniels’s breath. Deputy Harris asked Daniels if he had been drinking any alcoholic beverages, and he stated that he had one beer earlier.” During field sobriety tests, Daniels showed several signs of impairment and BAC of .114 on a PBT. Daniels was placed under arrest for DUI and refused the state test, so an administrative license suspension form was completed. According to the report, While waiting for the list wrecker to arrive at the incident location, Daniels asked Deputy Harris to contact his wife several time, and had to be reminded several times that Deputy Harris would not be making any phone calls on his behalf. Deputy Harris then asked the Daniels if it was his wife or his girlfriend that he meant due to him stating both descriptions, and he stated, “I f***ed up, I’m about to be in more trouble than ever.” Daniels was transported to the Catoosa County Jail, where he was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana.
