Atlanta man crashes while attempting to flee from Chattooga County deputy on Highway 27

According to a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on Sunday, March 13th, 2022, at around 10:30 a.m., Deputy Marvin Armstrong observed a vehicle on Highway 27 coming down the ridge into Summerville traveling at 97 miles per hour. According to the report, The deputy turned his lights on and turned around, the driver of the vehicle Garrett Lee Arnold, 32, of Atlanta accelerated passing several cars. After a brief pursuit on Highway 27 Arnold lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the woods around the Sturdivant Estates area. He then exited the vehicle which was totaled and fled on foot. Deputies stayed in the [Sturdivant Estates] area for several hours. A neighbor saw Arnold running on the street and called 911, resulting in his capture. Arnold was booked into the Chattooga County Jail, charged with fleeing for a felony offense, speeding, passing in a no passing zone, driving with a suspended license, seatbelt, and failing to maintain lane.
