Calhoun man arrested after pointing gun at men and firing shot in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Saturday, August 27th, 2022, at 7:30 PM, while patrolling Dews Pond Road, Deputy Leonard Schrader was dispatched to shots fired call at the corner of Dews Pond Road that was called in by someone at the Dollar General. Deputy Schrader then spoke with two men who advised they followed their sister to 3606 Dews Pond Road to retrieve a child’s bike she was riding. When they arrived at that house, Danny William Herndon, 68, of Calhoun, stepped out onto his front porch and immediately began yelling at them to get off his property. Danny also had a loaded gun in his hand. Both men were in the roadway and not on Danny’s property, trying to put the bicycle in the bed of the truck. According to the report, “There were some words exchanged by all parties, and then Danny pointed the gun at both men before firing a shot.” Danny advised the deputy that he never fired a shot and that he did not have a gun out at all. He also advised that both men were on his property. The sister originally stated she didn’t see anything happen though she was between the roadway and the porch where Danny was. She then stated Danny did have a gun and did shoot the gun. According to the report, “Once all statements were taken, and Danny was placed under arrest, Danny said, “I can’t protect myself and my property from little punks?” Danny was booked into the Gordon County Jail, charged with threats and acts, reckless conduct, and pointing a gun at another. Deputy Schrader did locate an H&R model 732, .32 caliber, and also discovered one round of the fully loaded firearm was discharged.
