According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On July 15th, 2022, at 6:01 AM, Officer Evans and Officer Overstreet were dispatched to 2624 Lakeridge Circle in reference to a DUI wreck. Officers arrived and observed a red Infiniti in the yard next to a tree. According to the report, “The vehicle had front end damage but appeared to be operational. Officer Evans met with the complainant/witness, who is an off-duty police officer, that his wife advised him of a car that was in the yard across the street all night. He stated that he went over and checked the vehicle and noticed that the driver was passed out behind the wheel. He stated that he woke the driver up and was told that he had been drinking the night prior and hit the tree. He stated that the odor of alcohol was coming from his breath, and there were open containers in the vehicle also.” When officers asked the driver, identified as Gabriel Vite Campos, 28, of Calhoun, what happened, he advised that he didn’t wish to speak because anything he said could be used in court. Officer Evans reported, “As he was advising me this [I] could smell the odor of alcohol still on his breath and his eyes were glazed bloodshot red.” Campos was placed under arrest for DUI and refused the state test. Campos was transported to the Floyd County Jail, where he was booked on DUI and open container violation.
