Calhoun man arrested for DUI after crashing on GA-156 in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 1:40 AM, Deputy Carnes was dispatched to the area of GA-156 and Redbud Elementary School Calhoun in reference to a single-vehicle crash. Deputy Carnes arrived on the scene and made contact with Charles Anthony Ellis, 31, of Calhoun, and could immediately detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Deputy Carnes could tell that Charles was slurring his speech while talking with the EMT’s. Charles said that he was at Applebees earlier in the night and left when they closed. Charles stated he and his wife then got into an argument. Charles left but stated that he felt that he was ” Too drunk to drive,” so he turned around to go back home. During Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Charles showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Charles agreed to the state test and was transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to maintain a single lane.
