According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Friday, April 17th, 2022, at 12:54 AM, Deputy J.C. Jackson was traveling westbound on GA-53, approaching the stop sign at GA-53 Spur. According to the report, “When coming to the stop sign, a gray pickup truck slowed briefly and continued through the stop sign without coming to a complete stop.” The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the pickup and made contact with the driver Juan Jesus Mancilla, 21, of Calhoun. Mancilla admitted to Deputy Jackson that he did not see any traffic coming so he thought he could go and did not have to stop. Mancilla advised he was coming from a family get-together for a quinceanera and advised he only had two beers. Deputy Mills arrived on the scene and assisted with standard field sobriety tests. Deputy Mills reported he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mancilla’s breath. Mancilla was determined to he was under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest for DUI. Mancilla was booked into the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI and stop sign violation.
