According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021, at approximately 1:15 PM, Deputy Morse was patrolling the area of Green Loop at Plainview Road. According to the report, Deputy Morse spotted a Brown 1990 Geo Prizm fail to stop at the stop sign before coming to a stop approximately 30 feet after, in the middle of the intersection of Plainview Drive at Green Loop. Deputy Morse pulled out behind the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at East Plainview Road. According to the report, The driver, later identified as Kelly Edwina Ward, 41, of Calhoun, did not yield to the deputy. Ward continued driving for several minutes at speeds of approximately 30-40 MPH. According to the report, Deputy Morse advised Gordon County 911 that Ward was attempting to elude. According to the report, The pursuit turned onto West Road from Plainview, where Ward then threw a black color bag out the driver’s side window. Ward then blew through the stop sign at Union Grove Church Road, where Ward threw another bag out the driver’s side window. Ward threw another bag out the window before turning into her driveway at 1048 Union Grove Church Road. According to the report, “Deputy Morse exited his patrol vehicle, drew his department-issued firearm, and conducted a felony stop on Ms. Ward. Ward attempted to reach back into her vehicle several times before being detained. The items Ms. Ward had thrown out the window were recovered by Sergeant Jones, Lieutenant Black, and Lieutenant Jones. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit was notified.” While Det. Fox was conducting his investigation he located a large clear plastic bag of clear crystal-like substance (meth) that Ward had attempted to hide in the back seat of the patrol vehicle. Ward was charged on October 19th, 2021, with failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, cracked windshield. Failure to stop for a stop sign, felony fleeing/attempting to elude police officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent, felony tampering with evidence, trafficking methamphetamine, reckless driving, and spiderweb windshield. She is currently being held in the Gordon County Jail, with no bond.
