Catoosa County deputy injured after crashing Saturday morning on Battlefield Parkway

According to the Georgia State Patrol: “On Dec. 19, at approximately midnight, Vehicle #1 a Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle was traveling east in the right eastbound lane of GA2. Driver #1 Deputy Nigel Torres, age 27, failed to maintain his lane, and he traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder, where he hit the curb with the passenger side tires of the patrol vehicle. After hitting the curb, the deputy traveled on the right shoulder, where he hit a traffic sign with the passenger side in front of the patrol vehicle. After this impact, the deputy traveled over the right turning lane from GA2 onto a private drive. The deputy then hit the curb to a traffic island with the front tires of the patrol vehicle, and he then traveled over the traffic island. The patrol vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest facing east on the right shoulder of the roadway. The deputy stated that he was looking at his tablet and that he observed another vehicle traveling slower in front of him. The deputy stated that he swerved off the roadway to avoid hitting the other vehicle. The deputy was injured and transported to CHI Memorial Hospital of Georgia. According to the GSP, the report is not complete.”
