Cedartown man arrested after driving aggressive leading to brief chase in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on June 29th, 2021, Lt. Rusty Williams was operating a stationary traffic observation point near the intersection of Wilshire Road and Highway 293. Lt. Williams reported, “[I] observed a small black vehicle traveling outbound on GA 293 approaching the intersection with Wilshire. The vehicle was revving the engine and, upon approaching the intersection in the turn lane, cut off a vehicle already in the intersection about to turn. The black vehicle approached my position on Wilshire, and [I] activated my emergency equipment and, after ensuring it was safe to do so, entered the roadway behind the black vehicle. [I] followed the vehicle at a safe distance with my lights and sirens activated” The vehicle was later identified to be driven by Rodney Ryan Mathis, 31, of Cedartown, then turned onto Robin Hood. Mathis continued on passing Lady Marian, and the vehicle turned on Lionel lane. On Lionel Lane, Mathis entered a driveway to a residence and stopped. Lt. Williams reported, “[I] exited the vehicle, as the driver exited his vehicle, he began to walk toward my vehicle. [I] agave the driver commands to place his hands on the vehicle and immediately secured him. The vehicle showed suspended registration. Mathis was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with knowingly driving a motor vehicle on suspended, canceled, or revoked registration, reckless driving, aggressive driving, and fleeing or attempting to elude the police.
