Cedartown man arrested for DUI during checkpoint in Floyd County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On September 3rd, 2022, at 2:45 AM, Trooper Story of Dalton post 5 was participating in an authorized checkpoint at North 2nd Avenue near West 3rd Street in Floyd County when a male later identified as Jesus O. Cervantes, 25, of Cedartown, drove up in a yellow Audi. Cervantes advised Trooper Sarrell of LaFayette Post 41 that he only had one beer before driving. Trooper Story reported, “[I] walked up to the vehicle, and [I] began talking with the driver. Upon talking to the said driver, [I] immediately noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and from inside of the vehicle. [I] also noticed he had bloodshot and watery eyes. [I] asked Mr. Cervantes if he had anything to drink, and he stated, “yes I had one 16 oz Michelob”.” During Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Cervantes showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .105 on a PBT. Trooper Story also smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the passenger, who stated they had just got done smoking. Cervantes was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Cervantes was booked into the Floyd County Jail and charged with DUI.
