According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on March 2nd, 2021, at approximately 10:33 AM, Deputy Henderson and Lieutenant O’Mahony attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Maroon Nissan Altima later identified as being driven by Christopher Dwayne Preavtte, 35, of Chatsworth southbound on GA 3 at Wagner Drive. Preavtte field to yield and ran the red light at Riverbend Road, still continuing south on the Bypass. GSP Trooper Kennedy advised at Walnut Avenue and would attempt to catch up to the fleeing vehicle. Deputy Bryson, who was running laser at GA 3 and IVC Drive, observed the Maroon Nissan Altima pass by him at an extremely high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Preavtte continuing fleeing, not slowing down. The deputy was going 110 mph, and Preavtte was still pulling away. The deputy maintained a visual on Preavtte as he weaved in and out of traffic on GA 3. Preavtte ran red lights while driving recklessly at a high rate of speed and overtaking multiple vehicles using the turn lane on GA 3. Preavtte made a right turn at a high rate of speed onto Corporate Drive. Preavtte’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and jumped the curb in a business parking lot, coming to a rest in the business’ lawn. Preavtte exited the vehicle due to it being stuck in the mud and took off running on foot in an attempt to evade the deputy. The deputy caught up to Preavtte and drew his taser ordering the male to stop. Peavtte complied, stopped, and put his hands up where he was taken into custody. Deputies located a large bag of a white crystal-like substance of suspected meth that Preavtte tossed. The drugs were turned over to a drug detective for charges and further investigation. Preavtte was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he was charged with felony theft by deception, possession of meth, possession to distribute meth, trafficking in meth, felony fleeing, speeding, reckless driving, driving While license suspended, running red light x2, and improper passing. According to online records, Preavtte has a lengthy criminal history, including several felony convictions.
