Chatsworth man found DUI after failing to maintain lane on Glenwood Avenue in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on February 27th, 2021, at around 3:00 AM, Officer Bell was patrolling Glenwood Avenue when he observed a white Ford F-250 traveling north on Glenwood towards the North Bypass. The vehicle was observed weaving and crossing the double yellow line. Officer Bell reported, “[I] then followed the vehicle and observed it continue to weave in his lane, continually crossing the double yellow line.” The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When the officer made contact with the driver, Zachary Baggett, 32, of Chatsworth, he could immediately detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. Zach’s eyes were reported as extremely red and glassy. The officer also noticed that Zach’s speech was slurred. When asked how much he had to drink, Zach answered that he had consumed approximately seven beers and drank one right before he left. Zach was observed to be very uneasy on his feet and appeared to have trouble maintaining his balance. Zach showed several clues of impairment during field sobriety testing and tested positive for alcohol with a breath alcohol content of .112. Zach was placed under arrest for DUI-driving under the influence of alcohol and read implied consent. Zach was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a breath alcohol count (BrAC) of .117 grams of alcohol. Zach was charged with DUI and failing to maintain lane.
