According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Sunday, October 17th, 2021, at around 9:31 AM, a 2006 Nissan Altima being driven by James Yingling, 21, of Chatsworth, was traveling west while negotiating a left curve on GA-286. A 2010 Lexus IS250 Brostan Sanchez-Soto, 22, Dalton, was traveling east while negotiating the same curve on GA-286. According to the crash report, “Yingling lost control of his vehicle as the Nissan began rotating counterclockwise into the Lexus’s lane of travel. The Nissan and Lexus both traveled off the roadway onto the south shoulder. This action caused the Lexus to hit the passenger side of the Nissan with the front of the Nissan. This impact caused the Nissan to rotate clockwise and overturn onto its roof as it came to an uncontrolled rest facing north on the south shoulder of the roadway. The impact between the Nissan and Lexus caused the Lexus to come to an uncontrolled rest facing south in the eastbound lane of GA-286.” According to the crash report, Yingling was not wearing a seatbelt suffered fatal injuries. Brostan was injured and transported by Hamilton EMS to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
