Chatsworth woman arrested for DUI after driving all over Highway 286 in front of deputy

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on August 11th, 2021, at around 11:19 PM, Lt Rann was traveling east on Highway 286 when he asked for a patrol unit in the area. According to the report, Lt Rann advised he was behind a possible DUI driver. He said he was traveling behind a black Dodge Nitro, and the vehicle was failing to maintain its lane. Lt Rann said it almost struck a mailbox.” A Few seconds later, the Dodge Nitro passed by Deputy Henderson’s location. Deputy Henderson followed it eastbound on Highway 286. Deputy Henderson observed the vehicle driving all over the roadway as well as following too closely behind an F150. Deputy Henderson stopped the SUV in the driveway of 1606 Highway 286. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Amairani Suarez, 25, of Chatsworth, on the driver’s side window. Suarez had trouble doing simple tasks such as get her ID, according to the report. According to the report, “Deputy Henderson asked her had she been drinking, and she said she had a couple of margaritas. Deputy Henderson asked where they were coming from and going, and she said a friend and home is only five minutes away. Deputy Henderson could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and observed she had glossy eyes.” Suarez showed several clues of impairment during field sobriety tests and tested positive for alcohol on an Alco-sensor. According to the report, “Due to Ms. Suarez’s intoxicated state and poor driving, Deputy Henderson arrested her and read her Georgia’s Implied consent notice.” Suarez agreed to give a breath sample. The car was turned over to the passenger Mr. Suarez. Suarez was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .272. Suarez was charged with DUI alcohol, failure to maintain lane, and following too closely.
