According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on December 15th, 2020, at around 4:05 PM, Lt. Lowery was dispatched to the Shoe Show located at 2535 E. Walnut Avenue in reference to a shoplifting. The deputy arrived at the location and noticed a white female sitting outside the store, smoking a cigarette. An employee inside the store stepped out and advised that the woman later identified as Sherry Rayfield, 41, of Chatsworth, had come into the store and shoplifted the pair of shoes that were currently on her feet. The deputy asked the female offender who was still digging in the bag for her identification if she took the shoes from the store. Sherry stated that she was on medication, and she is not sure. The deputy advised the female that medication would not make her forget simple things such as taking a pair of shoes or not, and the offender replied, “I’m on disability.”. After a long search, Sherry was able to find her social security card. Sherry was issued a Magistrate Court citation for theft by shoplifting at the request of the Shoe Show manager and the Employee who witnessed the shoplifting. Sherry was also advised not to be back on the property of the Shoe Show, or she would be charged with criminal trespassing. The store requested their merchandise back from Sherry as well.
