According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Monday, September 27th, 2021, at approximately 2:09 PM, officers responded to the Dalton Mall located at 816 Walnut Square Blvd in reference to a shoplifting in progress. According to the report, the caller had the suspects “Contained” near the shoe department. Officers arrived and made contact with the caller, and the suspect was later identified as Kiyanna Younique Satterfield, 29, of Chattanooga. According to the report, The caller stated he was the property manager for the mall and that the security guard called him stating that a “known shoplifter [Kiyanna] was currently at the mall, actively shoplifting again.” According to the report, Kiyanna was pushing a baby stroller, which she was concealing the stolen items in. Officers then learned of another black female that was involved that was in the bathroom. According to the report, An employee at Aeropostale stated when Kiyanna walked into the store, she immediately recognized her, further stating Kiyanna had stolen from Aeropostale several times before. The employee stated another black female, with short hair, wearing all white, was also with Kiyanna. She stated this female is also known to shoplift from them. She advised officers she observed Kiyanna place several items in her baby stroller and proceed to leave the store without paying. Officer Bell reported, “[I] believe she did, in fact, conceal the items in her baby stroller with intent to leave the mall without paying for the items. [I] then asked her if [I] was correct, to which she immediately admitted that she did place the items in her stroller without paying for them, further advising she planned on stealing the items. Officers recovered 19 white barn candles ( valued at $25.50 each). Two Aeropostale pants (one valued at $56.95 and one valued at $64.95). Three Aeropostale bows ( valued at $13.50 each). 10 Aeropostale women’s polos (valued at $24.50 each). Officers were informed that approximately 30 candles were stolen from bath and body works. Dalton Police Detective Williams arrived on the scene to further assist with the felony theft. Kiyanna would not give the name of the other female and continuously stated that she came alone and never was with anyone. While searching her vehicle, officers discovering 11 additional white barn candles stolen from bath and body works. While searching the trunk, officers discovered several pieces of children’s clothing, “A childrens place” with tags still on the clothes. Kiyanna was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with felony theft by shoplifting. Kanika Lasha Staton, 43, of Chattanooga, was later identified as the other female that was with Kiyanna. Staton was arrested and transported to the Whitfield County Jail. Staton was charged with felony theft by shoplifting, giving a false name to law enforcement, and fugitive from justice (Hamilton County, TN). Staton was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on September 29th, 2021, charged with felony forgery and felony theft of property.
