Checkpoint leads to 100 mph chase with unlicensed Carrollton man in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On April 2nd, 2022, at 12:41 AM, while Officer Carrington was participating in a traffic checkpoint, Keric Omar King, 20, of Carrollton, driving a white 2011 Hyundai Sonata entered the checkpoint. Officer Carrington reported, “[I] asked him for his driver’s license and proof of insurance. He said that he did not have his license, and he did not know where the insurance card was. He gave me the name Kaleel King, DOB of 2/16/2000. Later it was found out that he gave me his brother’s name. Due to the radio volume, Officer Surrett told me that Cpt. Hunton told him that Keric was good. [I] told Keric that he was good. He asked if the club was open in Armuchee. He turned around and headed southbound on the Armuchee Connector. About the time he left, dispatch called me on the radio and said that with the name he gave, he had felony warrants through Cedartown. Officer Harbin gave chase and said that Keric ran the red light at GA Loop 1 and Armuchee Conn. Officer Harbin paced Keric at speeds over 100mph on Riverside Drive. According to the report, “When they got to the railroad tracks, Keric jumped the tracks causing one of his tires to blow out. Keric stopped his vehicle at the library and fled on foot.” Officer Carrington arrived and observed them running across Broad Street. Keric was quickly arrested between the Canoe house and Doug’s bakery. According to the report, “Keric was told that he had warrants, and he said that he gave his brother’s name. A check of Keric’s name came back as he was unlicensed. A search of his vehicle was conducted, and marijuana less than 1oz was found along with an open container of a small bottle of Sutter Home wine in the center console.” Keric was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, obstruction of officers, open container, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving without a license, giving a false name or date of birth, failure to obey a traffic control device, and speeding.
