CMV driver arrested for DUI after driving all over I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On May 21st, 2022, at 2:43 PM, Deputy Dennison was actively patrolling the area of I-75 Southbound between miles marker 341 and 328. According to the report, “Deputy Dennison observed a commercial motor vehicle in the right-hand lane come partially off the road and very erratically move the vehicle and trailer back into the lane. Deputy Dennison got behind the vehicle to observe its driving at approximately mile marker 337 I-75 Southbound. Deputy Dennison observed the driver of the truck and trailer fail to maintain their lane several times. Deputy Dennison also observed the driver weave back and forth between the inside and outside line of the lane, almost going over the line but not quite. Due to the manner in which the driver was operating the vehicle, Deputy Dennison initiated a traffic stop at approximately 329 I-75 Southbound.” Deputy Dennison made contact with the driver, identified as D’ante Lee Tillman, 39, of Savannah, who stated that he was going to Florida. The deputy asked Tillman again where he was coming from, and he took several seconds to answer and seemed like he was having issues remembering. Tillman eventually stated that he was coming from Iowa. Tillman said that he was trying to get over and that the speed limit “kept going from 70 to 40”. Tillman advised Deputy Dennison that he doesn’t drink at all or smoke. According to the report, “Due to observing that Mr. Tillman’s eyes were bloodshot and that he was extremely nervous along with his driving manners, and the issues he was having remembering where he came from, Deputy Dennison asked him if he would be okay with performing some exams to make sure he was safe to drive. Deputy Thompson then arrived on scene to assist.” During field sobriety tests, Tillman showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Lt. Rann then arrived on the scene to assist. Tillman was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI Less safe, and failure to maintain lane.
