According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on June 5th, 2021, at approximately 10:50 AM, Sgt. Brunson and Deputy Witt responded to the area of Golf View Drive and Drivers Lane in reference to a Ford F-150 off the side of the roadway with a disoriented male driver. According to the report, “Upon arriving on scene Deputy Witt met with Sgt. Brunson, who was speaking with the driver later identified as Mr. William Wallis Bell, 47, of Cohutta. Deputy Witt spoke with Mr. Bell. When asked where Mr. Bell was, he answered at his parent’s house. When asked where his parent’s house was located, Mr. Bell replied, “here.” Deputy Witt asked Mr. Bell how much he had to drink today, and he replied, “Not much.” Deputy Witt then asked Mr. Bell what he had been drinking, and Mr. Bell responded, “Vodka.” Deputy Witt asked Mr. Bell to exit the vehicle and asked him to perform some Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.” Bell showed several clues of impairment during the tests. According to the report, “Sgt. Brunson had Mr. Bell blow in a breathalyzer to determine if there was a presence of alcohol in Mr. Bell’s system. The breathalyzer results were 0.468. Deputy Witt read Mr. Bell Implied Consent for a state-administered test of his breath. Mr. Bell refused to submit to a state-administered breath test.” Deputies located an open bottle of vodka in the rear passenger side floorboard. Bell was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with an open container in violation, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
