Convicted child molester sentenced to prison after being found in possession of child porn at Trion Motel

According to Chattooga County Superior Court records records, a registered sex offender and convicted child molester was sentenced to prison after being found in possession of child porn at Trion Motel is heading back to prison once again after Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered he was downloading child porn in a local motel room. Gilbert John Padilla, 57, confessed to downloading child porn at his Express Inn Motel room at 14364 Hwy. 27, in Trion. Padilla was sentenced to four years in prison and 16 years of probation, according to Superior Court records. “Defendant is banished from the counties of the LMJC. Defendant will submit a DNA sample to be stored by the division of forensic sciences. Defendant will abide by the sex offender special conditions,” according to superior court records. Information from a national agency that collects data on sex traffic over the internet submitted the original complaint to the sheriffs office. Investigators found several illegal images. Those digital photos were of prepubescent children, including toddlers, Sheriff Mark Schrader said. Padilla has been living in Chattooga County since May 2019 according to the GBI sex offender registry. He had been living in Chattanooga according to online records and was arrested in Catoosa County in 2016 for violating his sex offender terms. He has been a registered sex offender since he was convicted in a 1998 child molestation incident that happened in California.
