Convicted felon arrested after using counterfeit money to purchase firearm from man in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Tuesday, May 10th, 2022, SFC Stafford responded to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office lobby to take a report. According to the report, “The deputy met with the victim who stated he met with Jerry Mobley, 31, of White, GA, on Monday, May 9th, 2022, at the Flying “J” truck stop in regards to selling Jerry a Steyr M9 AZ-MF firearm for $500 dollars. Jerry handed the victim eleven (11) $50 dollar bills, after which time their transaction was concluded, and both parties parted ways. The victim later discovered the eleven(11) $50 dollar bills were not legal US Currency but were the fake currency used “for motion picture purposes” The victim came to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to file a report, during which time the victim turned over the fake currency for evidence, and provided the deputy with a screenshot of the suspect’s Facebook home page. During the investigation, Jerry was discovered to be a convicted felon and was arrested on May 27th, 2022. Jerry was booked into the Gordon County Jail, charged with a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, theft by taking, and theft by deception.
