Convicted felon out on parole found with gun during a Floyd County undercover child sex sting

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, December 28th, 2021, at around 11:55 PM, Inv. Misty Pledger continues to conduct proactive investigations to find child predators using social media platforms to entice children. Investigator Pledger reported, “In doing so, [I] was portraying a 14-year-old girl. [I] was contacted by Bernard Thompson, 47, of Cartersville, who stated he would provide me with drugs. The conversation was also sexual in nature.” According to the report, Thompson arrived at the designated time at the arranged location expecting to meet a 14-year-old child but was instead met with Floyd County Police officers. Thompson was then placed under arrest. According to the report, Thompson, who is a convicted felon, stated he was out on parole and was in possession of a pistol. Thompson was booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with child molestation, obscene internet contact with a child, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to online records, in 2015, Thompson kidnapped a woman from her home in Murray County during a domestic and violently attacked her with a knife and bat. According to Bartow County Jail records, Thompson has been arrested each year since 2018 for violating his parole.
