Crandall man charged with DUI again after crashing into ditch while swerving to miss deer

Deputy Halpin was dispatched to the area of 2402 Beaverdale Road in reference to a vehicle that had crashed into the ditch. The deputy arrived and met with the driver, identified as Mr. James Bedford Adams, 58, of Crandall, and provided the following information. According to the report, “Mr. Adams stated he was traveling north on Beaverdale Road when a deer ran across the road, and he swerved trying to avoid hitting it and lost control of his vehicle and ended up going down the embankment into the ditch. While talking to Mr. Adams, Deputy Halpin smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming off Mr. Adams’s breathe. Deputy Halpin asked Mr. Adams if he had been drinking at all tonight, to which he replied no. Deputy Halpin asked Mr. Adams if he would do the Field Sobriety Testing, which Mr. Adams agreed to.” During Field Sobriety Testing, Adams showed several signs of impairment. According to the report, “Deputy Halpin then read to Mr. Adams Implied Consent which Mr. Adams refused. Deputy Halpin then placed Mr. Adams under arrest and transported him to the Whitfield County Jail. Deputy Halpin charged Mr. Adams with DUI driving under the influence of alcohol less safe 3rd offense due to past DUI convictions and failure to maintain lane.”
