Crandall woman arrested on felony theft by deception warrant after stealing from her job in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On April 9th, 2021, at 3:20 PM, an officer responded to 816 Walnut Square Blvd, to the Claire’s Boutique, in reference to a theft. The officer spoke to the manager, who said that an employee, Kristin Leanne Brown, 35, of Crandall, had been stealing from the store since December 16th, 2020. According to the report, The manager explained that Kristin would take an item that was for sale in the store and scan the item for a refund. The store’s policy is to refund returns with a gift card. The manager said that Kristin would refund the item to a gift card, then scan the gift card and exchange it for cash. The manager said she did this over 20 times for a total of $968.76. The manager said that she was advised by the company’s loss prevention manager that this was happening. She said that the manager found out when Kristin used a gift card to purchase an item that was in the store but used her employee discount on the purchase. She said they began looking into previous refunds and found what she had been doing. The manager explained that the company’s policy instructs her to conduct an integrity interview, where they give the employee an option to admit to the accusations, then agree to refund the company, and they would not pursue charges. Kristin denied the accusation and left the store. The manager said that they wished to pursue charges. The case was presented to a magistrate judge, and warrants were issued for her arrest. On October 10th, 2022, Kristin was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with felony theft by deception.
