Dalton man arrested after child porn found on phone

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on December 7th, 2020, at around 10:48 AM, A deputy responded to 121 Coho Way Apt B in reference to a female stating her boyfriend received a phone the night prior containing child pornography. She said her boyfriend received a white iPhone 4, and it still was linked to an iCloud account that had deleted photos of child porn. The deputy asked the man where he got the phone from, and he said a man gave it to him last night. He said the phone used to belong to Rickey Dean Shaffer, 31, of Dalton. The man said he was looking through the phone that morning and noticed the Icloud was not deleted and said he clicked on it and it contained pornographic photos involving children. The man gave permission to the deputy to take the phone. The deputy took a report and placed the phone into evidence for the case detective to look at. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections and Whitfield County online records, Rickey Shaffer pleaded guilty in Superior Court to 17 counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of meth in 2016. He was sentenced by Judge Cindy Morris on count one of sexual exploitation of children to 15 years, with five in prison and ten on probation. According to a report, Shaffer was the subject of a child pornography investigation in Middleton, Ohio, and had left there to visit family in Dalton. Shaffer was arrested in Murray County and booked into Whitfield County on December 9th, charged with felony probation violation. Shaffer, who was still in the Whitfield County Jail, was charged on December 30th with felony computer or electronic pornography. Shaffer remains in the Whitfield County Jail with no bond.
