According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on May 1st, 2021, at approximately 9:02 AM, Detective Nelson was running stationary speed detection near Interstate 75 exit 320 in Resaca. Detective Nelson observed a black Infiniti car traveling at a high rate of speed. The detective checked the vehicle with LIDAR and got a reading of 102 miles per hour at 1159 feet. The detective attempted to conduct a traffic stop and observed the vehicle weaving between lanes at a high rate of speed and recklessly. The vehicle then made an abrupt maneuver traveling from the far left lane to the 318 exit ramp. The vehicle continued down the ramp at a high rate of speed, passing another vehicle on the right shoulder before continuing through a red traffic light. The vehicle then traveled south on Highway 41 before coming to a stop near Smith Motel. The detective made contact with the driver, identified as Marcus Shaheen II, 21, of Dalton. Shaheen was asked to exit the vehicle where he was placed under arrest. Shaheen was transported to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office charged with speeding, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stoplight.
