Dalton man arrested after shoplifting from the Walmart on Walnut Avenue

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on December 3rd, 2021, at around 6:48 PM, Deputy Fernandez responded to 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference to a shoplifter. According to the report, Once on scene, Deputy Fernandez met with the loss prevention associate in the office. She had the offender Jonathan Mathis, 36, of Dalton, in the office who was caught shoplifting. The loss prevention report that she provided stated that Mr. Manis was skip scanning merchandise at self-checkout #22. He made a purchase and exited through the grocery door, passing all points of sale and making no effort to pay for the items.” According to the report, the total was 63.27 in shoplifted merchandise. The stolen items included cat food, Bic lighter, and other miscellaneous items. Mathis was approached by loss prevention associates and escorted to the back. Mathis was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with theft by shoplifting.
