According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on October 25th, 2021, Officer McBrayer responded to the Walmart located at 815 Shugart Road in reference to a shoplifting in progress. Officer was advised the shoplifter was fleeing from loss prevention. According to the report, Lt. Bishop, who was actively patrolling the area, observed the vehicle leaving the area of Walmart. He then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, James Baker, 51, of Dalton. According to the report, Officer McBrayer learned that there was a redshirt taken from this location. Baker also admitted to being trespassed from Walmart in the past due to shoplifting. According to the report, “He also completed a criminal history report on Baker. Upon checking the criminal history, we located at least three shoplifting convictions in the past.” With this being the fourth offense, Officer McBrayer charged Baker with felony shoplifting based on the code section. Baker was also charged with criminal trespass.
