Dalton man arrested for DUI after crashing into tree on New Years Eve in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on December 2021, at around 2:30 AM, Officer J. Owens responded to a one-vehicle crash on Nelson Street and Fields Avenue. The officer arrived and observed that the vehicle had run off the roadway and collided with a large tree. Officer Owens reported, “[I] then made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Carlos Adrain Martinez jr, 23, of Dalton, (driver) and Alan Orellano ( passenger). Once [I] made contact with Carlos and Alan, [I] noticed an alcoholic smell coming from their person. Carlos stated that he was traveling east on Nelson Street and thought the roadway continued straight instead of making a curve. Carlos stated that he drove straight over a large curb, popping his tires, and collided with a large tree. When [I] spoke with Carlos, [I] noticed that it was hard to keep his balance. Also, when he was speaking, his speech was slurred. [I] noticed that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot.”The officer then asked Carlos how much alcohol he had to drink, and he said he had “Two or three beers” the officer asked Carlos if he thought he was safe to drive on the roadway, and he said he did not think he was safe to be driving. During field sobriety tests, Carlos showed several signs of alcohol impairment and showed a BAC .136 on a PBT. Carlos was then placed under arrest for DUI and read implied consent for his breath which he agreed to. Carlos was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI – alcohol less safe and failure to maintain lane.
