According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On July 9th, 2022, at approximately 2:53 AM, Officer O’Neal observed a 2018 gray Dodge Challenger squealing it’s tires as it turned right from East Morris Street to Glenwood Avenue to travel north. When turning, it was reeving the engine, and it had a very loud exhaust. It then did the same thing when turning left onto Gordon Street. Officer O’Neal conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Kevin Burciaga, 19, of Dalton. Officer O’Neal reported, “He stated he wanted to hear his exhaust. When [I] started to talk to him, [I] could smell a slight odor of alcoholic beverage coming from inside the car. Burciaga’s eyes were glossy and a little red. [I] observed an empty box labeled for beer in the back passenger floorboard. [I] asked him for a driver’s license. He fumbled to get his wallet out. He told me he did not have his license on him.” Burciaga advised he had nothing to drink before driving. During a standardized field sobriety test, Burciaga showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .176 on a PBT.
