According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On August 19th, 2022, at 8:04 PM, Cpl. Flowers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on I-75 southbound at the Walnut exit ramp. During the crash investigation, it was determined that the driver of the 2015 Nissan Versa, Justin Ryan Jenkins, 35, of Dalton, struck the rear of vehicle 2 with its front. The victim stated he was traveling between 65-70 mph when he was struck in the rear by the Nissan. Cpl. Flowers spoke with Jenkins, who stated he was drunk and to take him to jail. Cpl. Flowers reported, “[I] advised him we will talk about that in a few, but [I] need to know what happened in the crash. He stated his father just passed away, and he has been drinking since. He stated he was driving in the left lane, thinking about his father, and then realized he had struck a vehicle in the rear. While talking to Mr. Jenkins, [I] noticed he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. His eyes were bloodshot and watery, his pupils were dilated, and his speech was slightly slurred. [I] asked him what he had to drink prior to operating his vehicle. He stated he had been drinking some whisky, but not sure what kind. [I] asked him how much he had, and he stated two shots. He then interrupted me and asked me to just arrest him and take him to jail because he knows he messed up.” Jenkins showed a BrAC of .241 on a PBT. Jenkins was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state blood test. Jenkins was then transported to Whitfield County Jail and booked charges with DUI, following too closely, and reckless driving.
