Dalton man charged with DUI after being stopped for failing to maintain lane in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on September 18th, 2021, at around 3:19 AM, Deputies Sharpe, Warren, and Sgt. Dalton was in the parking lot of Dollar General on Airport Road. According to the report, “Deputies observed a black 2002 Ford Truck with Georgia tag slam on his breaks and then pulled into the Dollar General. The vehicle turned around the parking lot. The vehicle then turned right onto Airport Road, going northbound. The vehicle then made a wide right turn onto Airport Road. The vehicle crossed the fog line twice. Deputy Sharpe conducted a traffic stop at Airport Road and the Bypass.” the deputy made contact with the driver identified as Juan Adolfo Lopez Jr., 22, of Dalton, and asked him to turn the vehicle off. Deputy Sharpe had to repeat to Lopez to turn the vehicle off. According to the report, Lopez appeared to be out of it. Lopez just looked forward like he was looking into space. According to the report, “Deputy Sharpe could smell an odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle. Deputy Sharpe asked Lopez if he had anything to drink, and he stated “no”. Mr. Lopez was very unsteady on his feet. Deputy Sharpe had to tell Mr. Lopez multiple times to walk behind the vehicle. Deputy Sharpe then asked Mr. Lopez once more if he had anything to drank. Mr. Lopez stated he had two Modelo beers at a bar in Dalton.” During field sobriety tests, Lopez showed several signs of impairment. According to the report, “Deputy Sharpe then asked Mr. Lopez how drunk he was. Mr. Lopez responded by saying that he was drunk. Mr. Lopez stated that he had to get home.” Lopez was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of 0.191. Lopez was charged with failure to maintain lane and DUI driving under the influence.
