According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on March 21st, 2021, at around 6:00 PM, Deputy Hackney responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter that was apprehended by loss prevention. The associate stated that he observed Jospeh William Parks, 58, of Dalton, skip scanning merchandise at the self-checkout. The associate stated that Parks paid for $33.43 of merchandise and didn’t pay for $87.78 in merchandise. While in the loss prevention office, the deputy had Parks remove all items from his pockets. During this process, the deputy removed a small round black nylon pouch from Parks front right pocket. Parks stated, “there’s a little dope in that”. Inside the black nylon pouch were two small plastic bags containing meth and five yellow round pills. Parks stated the pills were Oxycodone, and he had a prescription for them. Parks was arrested and transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with theft by shoplifting, possession meth, drugs not in original container, and possession of Schedule II.
