According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On July 28th, 2022, at 11:10 PM, officers responded to the address in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress. Officer Gilreath reported, “[I] observed a female and child standing in the street while waving their arms to get my attention. [I] parked my patrol vehicle, and the child began running towards me. The child was asking and begging me to help him and his mother. The child advised his mom’s friend, Petronilo Velasquez-Tomas, 25, Dalton, was inside the house very drunk and breaking things.” The child’s mother advised she allowed Petronilo to move in around April so that she could help him while he was on probation. According to the report, “She advised someone dropped Petronilo off at her residence around 10:00 PM, while he was extremely intoxicated. She advised Petronilo was telling her to drive him somewhere else. She advised she told him no because he was intoxicated. She advised that Petronilo got extremely mad and took her keys to her white Dodge Caravan. She advised that Petroniolo showed back up after leaving and became very angry inside the residence punching the walls and causing over $300 in damage to the drywall. She advised her child became very scared for her safety when he saw this and called 911. She advised Petronilo did not have a driver’s license.” Dispatch then provided a BOLO advising that a white Dodge Caravan with two flat tires was driving in the area. The 911 caller/concerned citizen advised the van left the roadway, struck a trash can, and went over the curb. The caller advised the vehicle was traveling toward Brookwood. Officer then located the van and Petronilo heading into the woods. Petronilo, who had no valid license, advised he spoke only a little English and was a citizen of Guatemala. Petronilo was placed under arrest and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where Petronilo refused to sign the consular notification form. Petronilo then refused the state test for his breath. Petronilo was charged with criminal trespass/damage to property (FV), Obstruction of law enforcement officers, DUI alcohol less safe, and driving while unlicensed.
