Dalton man killed, woman seriously injured in suspected road rage crash in Whitfield County Sunday

According to the Georgia State Patrol Lt. W. Mark Riley of the Public Information Office, “On November 28, 2021, at 11:50 a.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 5 Dalton responded to a two-vehicle crash on South Dug Gap Road at Carpet Capital Drive. The preliminary investigation determined that a dark blue Ford Ranger driven by Mr. David Shoemaker (48 years old)  and a red Pontiac G8 driven by Ms. Kristin Small (29 years old) were traveling north on South Dug Gap Road. Mr. Shoemaker traveled into the center turn lane next to Ms. Small and rammed her vehicle. After impact, both vehicles traveled to the left, crossed the southbound lane, and ran off the roadway. The Ford Ranger struck a tree with the passenger side where it came to final rest against the tree. The Pontiac G8 struck a tree and overturned, ejecting Ms. Small. Ms. Small was transported to Erlanger by Life Force with serious injuries. Mr. Shoemaker suffered fatal injuries. This crash is possibly the result of a road rage incident. These are the preliminary investigative findings, and this crash is still under investigation.”
