Dalton officer locates stolen BMW and Louisiana man wanted out of Kentucky at local hotel

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on September 10th, 2021, at 9:00 AM, Officer Jones overheard Officer C. Jenkins check a tag at Budgetel Inn and Suites Dalton through dispatch that returned stolen through Kentucky. According to the report, “The tag did return to a stolen 2003 BMW, and it was linked to a wanted person Victor Joseph Fontenot, 37, of Opelousas, Louisiana, who had several violent person against crimes warrants through Kentucky. Another officer arrived and met with a female who had room 266 rented. Officers had her contacted by the front desk and to step outside. According to the report, “Once she was outside, MPO Hughes gave her orders for her to come toward him away from the room. She spoke with MPO Hughes and confirmed that Victor Fontenot was inside room 266 but was supposedly unarmed.” Her room key was used to gain entry into the room officers performed a high-risk warrant service function. Officer Avila made initial entry with the shield, another officer with a rifle, and Officer Jones performing the arrest. According to the report, Fontenot was located in bed, asleep. Fontenot placed his hands out in front of him, complying with commands, and was taken into custody without incident. Fontenot nor any officers were not injured during the arrest. Victor Fontenot was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with “Fugitive from justice” was held on a Kentucky warrant for multiple felony domestic violence-related offenses (Fayette County, Kentucky, for the first-degree strangulation).
