Dalton PD investigating break-in at laundromat on Glenwood Avenue

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a man who broke into the Speed Queen laundromat on Glenwood Avenue, but was apparently too spooked to complete his burglary. The incident was recorded on surveillance video. The incident happened at approximately 4:00 AM at the Speed Queen laundromat at 520 N. Glenwood Avenue. A suspect drivng a light-colored GMC Sierra pickup truck drove up to the front of the business and parked near the front door. The truck had several bicycles in the bed and also a red drive-out tag for a license plate. The suspect loitered around the front of the business for several minutes, ducking behind his truck for cover whenever a vehicle passed by on Glenwood Avenue. Finally, the suspect approached the front door and used the claw end of a hammer to pry open the front door. Once the door was open, the suspect opened the door for a moment and looked around inside, and then immediately withdrew to his truck and drove away, apparently spooked by something. The suspect is a white male, estimated to be less than 40 years old, with a muscular build and facial hair standing approximately six feet tall. He wore a ball cap, gray tank top , and orange shorts. The GMC pickup truck had the red drive out tag and also a dent on the passenger side of the vehicle. Investigators are hoping someone will recognize either the suspect or the truck by its damage or the drive-out tag. Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to please contact Detective John Edwards at 706-278-9085, extension 9-152.
