Dalton teen arrested for DUI after crashing on Threadmill Road in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On September 18th, 2022, at approximately 1:50 AM, Trooper Story was dispatched to a crash on Threadmill Road near East Brookhaven Circle in Whitfield County. Trooper Story arrived and observed a silver Nissan Altima in the ditch. Trooper Story reported, “[I] spoke to Officer Gilreath with Dalton City PD, and she advised me the driver was in the back of her patrol car in cuffs. [I] walked to the back of the patrol car and noticed the driver was sleeping.” The driver stated he didn’t know where it was, but his name was Edgar Alejandro Zuniga, 19, of Dalton. Trooper Story asked Zuniga where he was coming from tonight, and he stated, “Mexico”. She asked Mr. Zuniga the question once more, and he answered, “it was actually my grandmother’s birthday”. She asked Mr. Zuniga if he crashed his vehicle and he stated, “actually I was just about to drive to my house honestly”. Trooper Story reported, “While talking to Mr. Zuniga, [I] noticed that he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and marijuana coming from his person and his breath. [I] also noticed Mr. Zuniga had bloodshot and watery eyes. The whole time Mr. Zuniga was talking [I] noticed his speech was very slow, slurred, and withdrawn. [I] asked Mr. Zuniga if he had any alcohol to drink, and he advised he had a Happy dad. When asked what that was, he stated, “a beer”. I then asked Mr. Zuniga if he had any marijuana that night, and he advised yes, he had CBD and that he promoted it.” During field sobriety tests, Zuniga showed several signs of impairment. Zuniga was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Zuniga was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with driving with no insurance, failing to maintain a single lane and DUI.
