Dalton teen arrested for DUI after leaving party and failing to maintain lane in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On October 30th, 2022, at around 11:48 PM, Deputy Sharpe was in the area of Dawnville Road and Chappell Way. According to the report, “Deputy Sharpe heard and saw a green 2004 Ford Explorer with Georgia tag BQT7893 fail to maintain its lane, and it ran over the rumble’s strips with the passenger side of the vehicle.” Deputy Sharpe conducted and made contact with the driver, identified as Yesenia Ruedas, 17, of Dalton. Ruedas advised Deputy Sharpe she failed to maintain her lane because she needed to get gas. According to the report, “Deputy Sharpe asked Ms. Ruedas where she was coming from. Ms. Ruedas advised she was coming from a small party. Deputy Sharpe asked Ms. Ruedas if she had anything to drink. Ms. Ruedas advised Deputy Sharpe she had not had anything to drink. Deputy Sharpe could smell an alcoholic beverage omitted from Ms. Ruedas when she spoke.” During field sobriety tests, Ruedas showed several signs of impairment and showed a positive for alcohol on a PBT. She then admitted to only having two shots of alcohol before driving. Deputy Sharpe then read the implied consent notice for suspects under age 21. Ms. Ruedas agreed to take the state-administered chemical test of her breath and blood. A search of the vehicle yielded a Cayman Jack Watermelon margarita in the center console. The drink was still cold and had alcohol still in it. A Smirnoff ice smash (red, white, and berry) was located on the floorboards of the passenger side of the vehicle. It, too, was cold to the touch and had alcohol in it. The Smirnoff was nearly full. Ruedas was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a have a BrAC of 0.117. She was charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving under the influence of alcohol, and open container violation. According to the report, “Deputy Sharpe also filled out administrative license suspension and implied consent DDS 1205 (Rev. 05/17). Deputy Sharpe collected both Ms. Ruedas’s driver’s license and learner permit. Both the permit and license will be attached to the left-hand corner of the DDS 1205 (Rev. 05/17) and placed into the administrative box.”
