Dalton woman arrested after shoplifting $8 candy from downtown gift shop in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on November 15th, 2021, at 5:50 PM, Officer Murdoch responded to 205 West Cuyler Street At Raspberry Row Inc In reference to a shoplifting that had just occurred. The owner stated that a white female, later identified as Brittlyn Michelle Ariail, 22, of Dalton, with long brown hair wearing a denim jacket and jeans, stole a container of candy and was walking towards the Budgetel. The female was also with a white male wearing a white tank-top and dark-colored pants. According to the report, the officer patrolled the area and had negative contact with the female shoplifter. The owner stated that the female was looking at the candy and walked away from the area, and did not set the candy down. She continued to walk around the store and adjust her jacket to conceal the container. She told the couple that they were closing up and asked if they wanted to pay for the candy. The female didn’t answer and fled the store towards downtown. While the officer was reviewing the video of the theft, Lt. Thompson located the suspects at the Budgetel. The owner was able to verify that they were the same suspects that were in the store. When the officer asked Brittlyn about the candy, she stated that it was only $8 and that she was hungry. Brittlyn was transported to Whitfield County Jail, charged with theft by shoplifting.
