According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office report, on February 4th, 2021, at approximately 12:00 PM, a deputy was dispatched to the Walmart located at 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference to shoplifting. The deputy spoke with the asset protection associate in the loss prevention office of Walmart. The associate advised that an Amber Ann Chastain, 40, of Dalton, was observed entering the Walmart with no merchandise, shopping and selecting several pairs of pants, and approaching the customer service desk for a refund. Chastain was provided with a Walmart gift card for $89.47 dollars. Chastain then continued to shop and selected several additional items and went to check out and used the gift card to pay for these items. Loss prevention personnel then apprehended her. The deputy was advised that Chastain had been observed shoplifting on three separate occasions in the past month, but this was the first time loss prevention was able to catch her in the store. Chastain was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with shoplifting.
