Dalton woman arrested for DUI after leaving bar and driving all over the roadway

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On September 25th, 2022, at approximately 1:27 AM, Officer Wingate was assisting other officers on a call for service in the area of Tenoch Urban Kitchen Bar located at 319 North Hamilton Street. While on scene Officer Wingate observed a 2021 Mini Cooper leave the parking lot and fail to maintain a single lane. Officer Wingate left the call and located the vehicle, and observed the vehicle swerving all over the roadway and the speed fluctuating between 30 and 35 mph. After the vehicle failed to maintain a single lane by crossing over the yellow center line, Officer Wingate conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, where he made contact with the driver, identified as Makenzie Grace Mitchell, 22, of Dalton. Officer Wingate reported, “[I] could immediately smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside the vehicle. Mitchell stated she consumed only one double shot of vodka. While speaking to Mitchell [I] could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. During field sobriety tests, Mitchell showed several signs of alcohol impairment by missing heal to toe steps, failing to follow directions, miscounting during the one-leg stand, swaying, and using her arms for balance. Officer Bethune conducted Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus with indicators present of being under the influence. Mitchell was then placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Mitchell was transported to the Whitfield County jail, where she showed a BAC of .162 on the state test. Mitchell was charged with DUI / alcohol .08 grams or more, 21 or over, and failing to maintain a single lane.
