Dalton woman found in possession of cocaine after crashing on Abutment Road while DUI

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On May 15th, 2022, at 5:49 AM, Officer McBrayer responded to the area of Abutment Road and VD Parrott Jr. Pkwy in reference to a single-vehicle crash with possible injuries. The officer arrived on the scene and found Kia Soul with a female driver identified as Maria Camacho-Alvarado, 21, of Dalton. According to the report, “She stated that she was traveling north on Abutment Road when she came upon a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway. She stated that she slammed on her brakes and crossed the oncoming lanes of travel, and ran off the roadway.” Officer McBrayer reported, “Maria smelled of alcoholic beverage, and she was moving around very rapidly. She was moving her jaw around like she was chewing on something, yet she indicated that she did not have anything in her mouth. [I] asked her if she had consumed any alcohol, and she stated yes but around 12:00 AM. During field sobriety tests, Maria showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .136 on a PBT. Maria was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the implied consent. The officer then located suspected cocaine inside her purse. Maria was then transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .142 on the state test. Maria was charged with DUI, failure to maintain a lane, and possession of cocaine.
